German minimum wage changes in 2019

Since the 1st of January 2019, German minimum wage that has been increasted from €8.84 an hour to €9.19.

 

The German legislature has increased the nationwide minimum wage with effect from 1 January 2019, from EUR 8.84 to EUR 9.19 per hour. This computes to a gross figure of EUR 1,599.06 per month for a 40 hour week (based on an average 174 working hours per month).

The minimum salary generally applies to all employees performing professional activities in Germany – independently of whether work authorization is needed. This means that the German labor law minimum salary has to be met for Truck drivers posted in Germany with operational activities.

Employers should ensure that their approach to managing international assignments and operational travel into Germany takes account of the regulations on comparable salaries and the minimum wage as appropriate.

Furthermore, employers should review employees already working in Germany whether their current wage items will meet the new threshold for the German labor law minimum wage.
